Practise CSCS questions by topic
The real test draws its 50 questions from a fixed set of knowledge topics. Every topic has its own question bank — revise your weak areas, then take a full mock.
Which CSCS card are you working towards?
The card decides which version of the test you sit, not the other way round. There are 13 CSCS cards across six colours — find yours before you book, because sitting the wrong test means paying the £23.50 twice.
Compare all 13 CSCS card types, check whether you need a CSCS card at all, or read the CSCS card changes for 2025 and 2026 — the Labourer card dropped to two years on first application and Industry Accreditation has ended.
Understand the test before you book it
Everything below is the same exam. It is set by CITB, delivered by Pearson VUE, and the card is issued by CSCS — which is why it goes by two names.
Test-day tips
Pace at about 54 seconds per question
50 questions in 45 minutes leaves roughly 54 seconds each. Answer the quick ones first and flag anything you want to revisit.
Never leave a question blank
Only correct answers count — there is no penalty for guessing. Eliminate the obviously wrong options, then choose from what remains.
Watch for multi-answer questions
Some questions need two or more answers selected. You only score the mark when every correct option is chosen.
Only 5 wrong answers allowed
The 90% pass mark is unforgiving. Don't book the real test until you pass full mocks consistently, not just once.
Keep your score report
You get your result at the test centre straight away. The score report is required for your CSCS card application — don't lose it.
Answer as the site rules say
Questions test what you should do on a compliant UK site — the safest, by-the-book action, not the shortcut you may have seen used.
Who writes this, and what we are not
This is an independent revision site. We are not affiliated with CITB, CSCS Ltd or Pearson VUE, our questions are not the official exam questions, and passing here guarantees nothing about the real test. What we can show you is our working: where our facts come from, the editorial policy behind every question, and why we built the site. Found a mistake? Report an error or get in touch.
CSCS test — frequently asked questions
- How many questions are in the CSCS test?
- The CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test has 50 multiple-choice questions and lasts 45 minutes — the same for the Operatives, Specialist and Managers & Professionals versions.
- What is the CSCS test pass mark?
- You need 45 out of 50 (90%) to pass. Our mock tests use exactly the same pass mark so your practice score means something.
- How much does the CSCS test cost?
- The CITB HS&E test costs £23.50 in 2026, booked through Pearson VUE online or by phone on 0344 994 4488. Beware of sites quoting the old £22.50 price.
- Is this the official CITB test?
- No — we are an independent revision site. Practise here for free, then book the real test on the official CITB website.
- Which CSCS test do I need for my card?
- It depends on the card: Labourer and most skilled cards need the Operatives test, supervisory and trade-specific roles may need one of the 12 Specialist tests, and Manager cards need the Managers & Professionals (MAP) test. Use the official CSCS Card Finder to confirm.
